hey, so...if you want to try netflix or hulu overseas, I understand we can use VPN. but how about using Plex?

you setup your devices to use their DNS and it will route your packets through their proxy to access the country-restricted services. The services are fooled into thinking that you're accessing from within the country of the service.

you should be very scared. i would only try this with a virtual machine or a device that doesn't have anything important on it.

But that's really true about anything you use on the Internet. You can't be connected and be safe from all these security risks at the same time.

As long as you use an ISP, you are going through someone else's proxy. For example, if your ISP is Verizon, you are going through Verizon's proxy. They could literally do whatever they want with your packets, if they really want to. Much like any mal-intented entity.

In order to use the Internet, you have to use an DNS. Even if you set up a DNS and use you own, the information in your DNS is populated via a top-level DNS. It's possible that the top-level DNS is compromised. Or maybe the top-level DNS is set-up by an mal-intented entity.

You'll never know until you get "hacked".

Only foolproof is to lock yourself in a room and never go out, physically nor virtually.

No, I didn't provide a solution for your need. The only viable solution: 1) learn about the technology you use; 2) weight the risk-vs-return on using such a technology; 3) decided whether you want to use it or not.

Bottom line, using these services is probably no better or worse then using your current ISP. It all depends on each entity's reputation and how much you are willing to trust them. And whether you really need to do what you intended to do with them.

Plenty of freebies out at the moment, but most of them buffer all of the time, best off going with a faster service and paying few $ a month, www.vpnsupplier.com was pretty fast when i did the free trial.

Thanks for the article! The DNS option is better than using a VPN regarding content streaming because you can achieve direct connection with the media station ex. Netflix and avoid the “middle-man”. Personally, I am using UnoTelly which is similar to Unblock-us. Perhaps you should check UnoTelly as well if you havenߴt done so.
