CSI - An Overview
CSI or Crime Scene Investigation is an American television series dealing with crime drama. It is one of the popular television series and is watched by people all over the world. It premiered on October 6, 2006 on CBS and is now into its ninth season. This television series is about murder investigations conducted by a team of Las Vegas forensic scientists as they try to unmask mysterious deaths and other crimes.
This multi-award winning series, created by Anthony E. Zuiker, is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Paramount Television and has Laurence Fishburne, Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hill, Lauren Lee Smith, and Paul Guilfoyle among others playing the lead roles. William Pertersen who played Dr.Gilbert 'Gil' Grissom, left the show after the 10th episode of the current running season (Season 9).
The show usually starts off shortly before the victim is murdered or found dead so as to give the viewers an idea about the background of the case. This is followed by investigations done by the team using state of the art science and technology. They try to find evidence from the scene of crime and then head to the forensic science lab to reconstruct the crime scene with the results of the tests. How they manage to solve the case makes for an interesting watch.
The show regularly tops the Nielson ratings and has led to two offshoots on CBS (CSI: Miami and CSI: NY) and has inspired similar shows on other networks as well. Although CSI has a strong fan following, new shows like Grey's Anatomy and reality shows like the American Idol and the likes have kept the show's creative team on its toes.
