Digital TV Switch Postponed
Even though I already get cable television and the conversion should not affect me, I've been kind of nervous anyway about the impending switch from analog to digital television. I use the words "should not" affect me, because for some reason, the switch makes me worried anyway that somehow something will go horribly wrong and just as I'm about to sit down to watch American Idol with a large bowl of buttered popcorn, I'll turn on the set and for some inexplicable reason connected to the digital switch, my screen will go black.
So, it's with relief that I heard today that our new President got the Senate to postpone the digital television conversion from its originally planned date which was to be February 17 to four months later, on June 12. The reason Obama gave for the postponement is that the Federal program to give each American household relying on rabbit ears a $40 coupon to buy a necessary converter box had run out of money. More than a million families who still use an analog transmission have not bought their converter boxes and President Obama felt it was very unfair to those Americans to make the conversion before these folks have a chance to get their new boxes so they can continue to enjoy their television programs.
So all of you television viewers out there who either aren't ready for the switch yet, or those of you, like myself, who are just nervous anyway, you can all relax for another four months. I'm happy because a new American Idol will already be revealed by the time the digital conversion takes place!

This bill was defeated at the House of Representatives yesterday. However, the Senate passed it again today. It'll be debated on at the House of Representatives again next Wednesday.
