Still Waiting for Redemption
When is “Heroes” going to get better? That question has been on everyone's minds for so long that it's become a cliché. And even I, a long-time fan of the show, have started to doubt the quality of the show. There's obviously someone out there that still believes in the show since it has been given several chances. Whoever is keeping the show on air must have something invested in it or else it would have been gone a long time ago.
I honestly don't want to see the show get canceled, but the thought that “Heroes” has been on air for some time without much evidence of improvement does upset me a little bit. I can't help but recall all the good sci-fi shows out there that were canceled in their prime, still full of potential. There was “My Own Worst Enemy” and “Journeyman” not to mention “Painkiller Jane” and “The Dresden Files” (though on cable, they were still shows that NBC had control over). Those are the shows that I still find myself lamenting from time to time amidst fond memories of the short-lived series.
So the question again is why does “Heroes” get so many chances? After the big Writer's Strike that affected so many of my favorite shows, us fans were promised improvement. That's been minimal at best. And though the fourth season of Heroes was titled “Redemption,” I find myself still waiting for it to arrive.
