Deliverance

Last week let NCIS: LA fans into the private life and past history of Hetty Lange; this episode picks up where last week finished with multiple countries vying for the now deceased Soviet spy Cole's infamous and much feared black book. As the team goes out on a search and rescue mission that ends up with Kenzi being taken hostage. When the team finds her, they split up, with Deiks trading a fake copy of the black book for Kenzi. Deiks makes the trade and finds Kenzi in a room full of lasers, any one of which will trigger a bomb; the two work together to free her from the web of beams, deepening their growing friendship and trust.

Meanwhile Hetty revisits her relationship with Cole and is met by Matthias while reminiscing inside of Cole's nursing home bedroom. After discussing where their lives have brought them, Matthias raises the question of the infamous black book; putting his gun at the back of Hetty's head, he confronts Hetty about the book, stating, there is no book is there? Hetty replies, there never was.

This could possibly be the end of the Hetty/Matthias game of cat and mouse, but to ensure that it is, the team corner Matthias in his care and make it clear that if anything were to happen to Hetty, he will pay. The episode ends with Hetty placing a bound book in her safe deposit box along with multiple passports and a gun, implying that the book does live on after all.
