G. Callen Tribute

Although the primary reason I watch NCIS: Los Angeles is to see the investigative work the show's story revolves around, I get a lot of enjoyment out of many of the show's characters. I adore Kensi Blye and I'm definitely a fan of Doc Getz, but my favorite character on the show is, without a doubt, G. Callen. He is portrayed wonderfully by the talented Chris O'Donnell, and I feel that his plot lines are often every bit as intriguing as the mysteries the characters on the show are trying to solve.

G. Callen is a dark and often tortured character, but the writers find many ways to give him moments of light. For example, I've always loved his banana eating quirk, and I think injecting a little bit of silliness and weirdness into him like that makes easier to relate to than he would be otherwise. I also like watching him interact with all of the other members of the team, and I feel like he has a natural leadership quality that helps me to understand why the other characters would respect him and want to listen to his advice even though he can be very secretive with them.

One of my favorite episodes of the show is Pushback, which was in the first season. It shows the viewers what G. Callen's childhood was like, and it makes him very sympathetic. After seeing what he went through, it made me want to root for him to succeed even more than I already did. A later episode that I thought was a terrific showcase for the character was Human Traffic. I really enjoy interactions between G. and Sam, and as someone who really cares about the character, it was great to see him at peace the way he was in this episode's ending.
