This week's episode of NCIS: LA delved further into Callen's unknown past as the episode starts out with Callen's newly acquired house being broken into by an unknown gypsy hired by Arcady, a former KGB associate of Callen's. Arcady tips Callen off regarding a potential black market smuggling operation being led by a Romanian international businessman and local nightclub owner named Singh. Kenzi goes undercover as a natural psychic who has used her gifts to benefit herself financially, capturing Singh's attention and trust, as he places high regard upon signs from above and is extremely superstitious. Kenzi is able to break into Singh's circle and gain his trust, thereby getting the necessary information for the team regarding the planned black market op. The underlying plot of the episode revolves around the teamwork of the agents, as Callen feels the need to pull away from the team, and therefore his partner, Sam, as Callen attempts to delve deeper into his own mysterious past. Sam's disgruntlement at being temporarily partner -less and therefore working closely with new man on the team, Dieks, is taken out on Dieks, but the camaraderie between them grows as the teams nears the end of the mission, successfully thwarting the smuggling operation without loss of life or injury to the team. Nell also proves herself, as she is becoming one of the team, providing a nice counter balance to Eric's kookiness. The episode ends with Hetty stopping by Callen's house and giving him a houseplant; a plant that can survive without water, food or dirt, but which thrives best when it plants roots; the similarities to Callen and the plant being obvious.
