The Softer Side of a Hard working Abby

|n this week's episode of NCIS, we saw a different side of Abby. While you have seen bits and pieces of a soft side to Abby, everyone always thinks that Abby is the tough Goth chick who is as hard as nails and lectures them when they don't do things they way she thinks they are supposed to. That is not the case and it was very visible this week.

The episode was about a special agent who had been sending things to Abby for analysis and in the meantime the two had become good phone friends. Unfortunately that friendship comes to an abrupt end at the beginning of South by Southwest where he is the target of a hired killer.

Seeing Abby's emotional side begins as soon as they discover who has been killed. Abby is standing at the side of the crime scene tape. In a funny moment, the police officer who is watching the area doesn.t want to let her in, thinking she's just some wacko because of the way she dresses, and Gibbs has to let him know that's just the way she is.

Abby is immediately heartbroken to see the person she had been talking to, whom she had not agreed to see the night before, had been killed. While she had never met him, she felt a bond to the person she had befriended on the phone.

As Gibbs tries to talk to her about it all later, you see the tears well up in her eyes, thinking that had she done things differently and agreed to see him the night before, that he may still be alive as he would have been with her and not out on the street where a killer could find him.

Later we see Abby in the morgue, trying to sort things out, talking to the body of Jack Patterson, hoping he will tell her something. She figures if Ducky can talk to the dead, why can't she.

Watching her character throughout this episode was very emotional. She was on a constant roller coaster and trying to do whatever she could to help solve the case not only for justice, but for a friend.

It was also interesting to see this weak and vulnerable side to Abby. She reminded me much of a child who just can't come to grips with what has happened to someone and wants to find a way to undo all the bad. It was a sweet representation of her throughout the show.
