Episode 4: "Bang"- Victim or Red Herring?

There seems to be a bit of controversy surrounding episode 4 of Harperߴs Island, that controversy being the death of Joel Booth. CBS has been cited as saying that there will be a death every week, and some take it as saying there will be a murder every week. But Booth wasnߴt murdered, he died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound�or did he?

Boothߴs death could very well be a simple accident, but my money is on it being something else. I have two theories:

Booth was actually murdered- The sniper took advantage of the situation knowing that he couldnߴt kill both Booth and Malcolm without raising suspicions. He chose Booth as his target because he knew that Malcolm would be greedy enough to take the money and not tell anyone that Booth was dead, at least until he could stash the loot. Leaving a witness also means that even if Malcolm does tell everyone that Booth is dead, he would claim that it was an accident and Booth killed himself, leaving the real killer free to kill again.

I think it is even more likely that Booth, himself, is the killer- If you recall, CBS stated that Harperߴs Island would be like Scream or Ten Little Indians. Well, the connection between them would be that in both a presumed “victim” ended up being the killer. I think Booth faked his own death knowing that Malcolm would be more interested in the money than actually getting him help (or even checking if he was really dead), and that Malcolm would keep quiet about his (Boothߴs) death. This leaves Booth free to continue killing with no one suspecting him at all.
