Broken Arrow

“Broken Arrow”, the latest episode of NCIS starts with an ecstatic Ziva showing off her brand-new American passport to her team, however this plot thread quickly segues into the team being called to the scene of…you guessed it…a dead naval officer…a high ranking retired naval official found dead in a dumpster located on Annapolis Naval base. The plot thickens as Gibbs confounds the team by requesting assistance from Tony's father, after he is spotted by the team in video footage of the deceased offboarding an aircraft with Tony's father directly behind him; this after Tony received a call from his father that very morning; a call he chose to ignore.

Tony's relationship with his father, strained to begin with, is a key dynamic in this episode. Gibbs conducts the interview with Tony's father, while Tony and Ziva watch. Tony believes his father to be lying about his involvement with the deceased and is discomforted by Gibbs intention to use the Senior Toni to gain access into the high profile Royce summit in order to gain access to potential suspects.

Toni's relationship with his father is a source of much talk upon the team, as Tony is highly uncomfortable with his father's big-money, high-roller lifestyle, considering Tony and Gibbs believe he is, in reality, dirt-broke. In the midst of the family drama, the investigation unfolds, with McGee breaking the case wide open, when he figures out the meaning of a series of numbers found on the deceased's person; this leads them to a cab which contains parts of..all things… a long-lost hydrogen bomb, turning a simple homicide investigation into a potential terrorist plot.

As Ziva prepares to accompany Tony Sr to the Royce summit, Tony Jr is both discomfited and irritated by his father shenanigans. While Tony Jr and McGee run surveillance, Ziva works the crowd at the summit, and Gibbs works background information on the vessel carrying the hydrogen bomb that sunk some fifty years ago. Ziva's cover at the summit is blown by an arms dealer who recognizes her as the daughter of Eli David, and a current member of NCIS and her attempt to escort Tony Sr to safety goes somewhat awry, however the two manage just fine in hand to hand combat with the arms dealer and his cohort who attempt to prevent the two from leaving the summit.

All ends well as the head of the Royce security team is found to be guilty of espionage, fraud and of trying to offload the hydrogen bomb; DNA found under the dead man's nails seals the case and NCIS style justice prevails once more.

The episode ends with Tony Jr engaging in a heartfelt conversation with his father regarding Tony Sr's dire financial straits; communication being a long-lost art in the family, the conversation brings the two closer together as they reconnect over past memories of their favorite times together.
