Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends

So, as I was watching last week's NCIS, I got to thinking about one of the side stories.

At the beginning of the show, McGee came into the office on cloud nine. When everyone was asking why he was in a good mood he told them how he had met a girl online over the weekend that he was infatuated with. He talked about how she was a level 5 wizard in the game he plays (which seems to be quite the big deal) and that they had a number of things in common. It seems he had spent a whole weekend talking to this woman online, and was now looking forward to finally getting to see her in person and hope that things would progress.

While this sounds like a love story about to happen, it turns out that the woman who he was already falling for was actually a trick that Tony was playing on him. Tony has gotten into the game and created this character with the whole goal of messing with McGee.

Tony was thinking like Tony. He was thinking that a weekend of flirting with a woman online was nothing and something that could be easily forgotten. But, he did not consider who McGee is and that they are very different people. So, by Monday, McGee was already attached to this mystery woman and looking forward to taking the relationship to another level.

Wow, talk about your office joke gone wrong. This got me thinking. I have taken part in plenty of office jokes in the past that I thought were harmless, but were they? Just because I think something is funny or harmless doesn.t mean someone else does as well. Thankfully, thinking back I don.t think I have ever been involved with anything that could have turned out to hurt someone, but it was sure an eye opener.

Now, to the credit of the writers of NCIS, they got Tony back for the joke they made him commit. During he show, Tony had admitted to Ziva that he was responsible for the 'mystery woman'. Over the course of the show she let McGee know and he then turned the tables on Tony. At one point, he took the last slice of pizza, pouting about the woman, making Tony feel guilty and letting him get food out of the deal. He even got Tony to pay up on his outstanding debts, of which he gave Ziva half for giving him the information. Very funny!
