NCIS LA... Not the real NCIS!

I used to ridicule my friends that watched NCIS religiously. I had many of my own shows that had a firm grasp on my T.V. viewing time. But then one day, nothing good was on T.V., so I started watching an episode. I was caught up, hook, line, and sinker! I began to go to my "Primetime on Demand" channels and YouTube to watch back episodes. I started watching hours of reruns on TNT. Then, without realizing my growing obsession, I started putting reminder timers on my T.V. for everything NCIS. I began to root for Abby, she was my fovorite, even when she had that crazy nightmare and couldn't go into the basement until she had to in order to help Ducky. I loved how they were always hitting "probie"'s head, and how Gibbs always knew exactly when Abby had made a break through. I love how Gibbs always came into the middle of a conversation without anyone knowing he was there. I was so happy when Gibbs came back for good, and I even cried when Abby had that weird stalker. Dinozzo is important to the dynamics of the show, but not my favorite charictor. Ducky's assistant reminds me of myself, a driven perfectionist, just looking for acceptance and small tokens of recognition.

But then came NCIS LA.I was excited to watch the newest version of my favorite show. I made popcorn, and settled into my favorite lounge chair. There was no spark! I found myself dazing and soon began to flip channels, only to watch a rerun of the original NCIS. There was not even a sizzle, which leads me to wonder if I had loved the idea behind the show...or just the charictors and actors. Maybe I am only a one-dimentional NCIS fan. Maybe NCIS LA is a great show when set apart from the original.I think about Law and Order and CSI that way. You can love them all, just don't try to compare them, or expect the same charictor or group dynamics, because each has its own feel, a special flow that you come to expect from each series. And I guess it is important to heve spin-offs to give actors and writers a break and to compensate for losing certain charictors that are crucial to the show's success. I hated it when they lost Gideon in the show Criminal Minds. I think I will give NCIS LA another chance, and look at it as a brand new show that I have never seen.
