The Man, The Marine, The Character - Leroy Jethro Gibbs

Who doesn't wish Gibbs is their boss? Sure, he's a hard nut to crack and will likely be cracking the whip day in and day out making sure the job is done and done right (and slapping you on the back of the head when it isn't), but it would be worth it. Think of how much you would learn and grow working for him!

At the same time you would know that even if the worst thing were to happen to you, he would have your back. Don't think so? Let's think back to when Ziva was being charged with a terrorist attack and Gibbs came out of retirement to clear her name while also hiding her from the authorities.

Even when the world is falling apart around him, he will keep his head on straight and forges ahead to make sure the case is solved and peace is restored to the world around him.

If you're like me, you just love the character of Gibbs. While he is a very tough Marine (if you have ever known a Marine, there is no such thing as a 'former Marine'), who now works as a NCIS investigator, he also has a soft side. You get to see that when it comes to relationship and emotions, there is a lot amiss in Gibbs life, which makes him very human.

I can't imagine being haunted by the death of a spouse and child and keeping my head on straight as that follows me every day. We got a really good look at that when Gibbs was blown up right before his retirement and was not sure if he wanted to come out of the coma because he could relive the good days in unconsciousness. But he was strong enough to know where he needed to be and came out to get back to the job at hand.

I read a great article that talked about what actor Mark Harmon thinks about the character of Gibbs. He is very proud of the character he is playing, and I think that comes through in his portrayal of LJ Gibbs.

In the interview, Harmon said that he knew the real NCIS is all over counter-terrorism work and keeping us all safe and he is fascinated by them and the work they do. Talk about a driving force behind the character you play! It really shows when he puts on his NCIS hat and gets to work.
