What Do the Feds Think About NCIS?

Every week when I sit down to watch NCIS, I think about how great of a TV show it is, giving us a glimpse inside the life of a group of Naval Criminal Investigative Service Agents and their personal interactions as well as their case files. But have you ever wondered what those who work for the government, even inside NCIS think about the show?

I was curious so I did a little research. It turns out their thoughts about NCIS are mixed. Here's a look at their overall thoughts.

Pros

There are a lot of good things those that work inside the government see about shows like NCIS. First and foremost, the government agents are the good guys. They like that they are portrayed as the heroes and not as the ones everyone hates (which often happens in real life). They are also big fans of the fact that they tend to solve the crime with a lot of hard work and attention to detail.

Another positive aspect of the show is the fact that they show that the people who are behind those badges and desks have real lives and real personalities and families that they often have to push aside for their job. That's more often spot on than not.

Cons

Now on the other side of the coin. One of the things they are not a fan of is how the show makes it look like crimes are solved very, very quickly. In real life there are some cases where they luck out and all of the pieces fall in place to tie up a case in a snap. But usually the truth of the matter is cases can take weeks, months or even years to tie up. Those are weeks, months and years of tireless work, waiting for test results and trying to find any thread to follow that may lead to the next clue. They have a little concern that the more the public thinks cases should be 'solved in an hour' the more impatient and angry they become when real cases are not wrapped up as quickly.

The other thing they are not major fans of from NCIS is that there is not enough attention given to the scope of workers who really do work for the federal government. You only get to see those top tier investigators and not all of the other people who really are the ones who do a lot of the work and get none of the credit.

Overall, the outlook on shows like NCIS by those who really are within those ranks is a positive one. They like being the good guy!
