Ziva and Tony ... Should They Get Closer?

So, if you are paying any attention to the subtle side story lines in the show, you know there seems to be a little bit of 'something' between Tony and Ziva. Since she showed up on the scene in Season 3, there has always been a little sparkle between them.

Since the beginning the writers have always created a few special moments here and there for them to share. The most obvious one in Season 3 was during the Under Covers episode. In this case, Tony and Ziva had to pretend to be an assassin couple that was staying together in a luxury hotel. 'Faking' the romance and passion for the job also let you see a glimmer that there was more than 'work' on their minds.

All through that episode you were left to wonder how much of it they were faking and how much was going on under the covers.

Since that time, there has always been a lot of sexual tension.

Ziva knows there is an interest and has a good time teasing Tony about it. At the same time, while she acts like she doesn't care, you can tell that she does. When Tony is in a relationship with Dr. Jeanne Benoit she becomes very jealous and possessive, regularly calling to check on him.

While he doesn't talk about the relationship, when she learns he is with a doctor, she worries that he is ill and needs someone to be there for him.

On the other side of the coin, anytime a man talks to Ziva, Tony notices. When she started to grow a fondness for a man she met while on an undercover mission at a bar, Tony was very curious and defensive about her relationship possibility.

I expect the tug of war between them will go on for some time. Really, this is nothing that you wouldn't expect form such characters. When you consider the job of these characters, they are supposed to put their lives in each other's hands every day. Why would you not grow attached to those you work with? And sometimes, one type of closeness grows into another. That all makes sense.

This still has me wondering, do I want them to ever really hook up in the show? Probably not. I think it's the intrigue that makes the tension all the more exciting. If they were to go ahead and try a relationship, it would soften that part of the story line. They would either be mushy and in love or end up breaking up and being hostile. I think this side plot is perfect the way it is.
