Short Fuse

A couple in a bedroom hear noises downstairs. Female grabs a gun and walks downstairs. She fires; he fires. The intruder is dead. Yes, NCIS always starts with a death of a marine. Show is entitled "Short Fuse."
The assumption is that it was a home intruder. NCIS tries to do a scan of the fingerprints of the intruder. Ducky finds that his fingerprints have been removed. Woman(Sgt. Heather Dempsey) has stated that she was alone at the time, which we already know is not true. Abs analyzes the 911 call the shooter made and decifers that noise in the background is a man's voice.

55 yr old man, liver transplant recipient from years ago, Ducky deduces. At the same time, there is a bomb threat happening on a ceremonial naval ship. Sgt. Dempsey , a bomb diffuser for the Navy, is on board, pushing the issue of them allowing her to enter the deck with the bomb to check it out. She enters, opens the backpack with the bomb inside, sees a timer at 6 seconds, tries to leave just as the bomb explodes. She is shaken but not harmed.
Meanwhile Mcgee has done a search on all cell phones that were in use during the 911 call( trying to figures out who was talking on a cell phone and captured as the male voice in the background of the call), and has elimiated all but one, which turns out to be registered to the FBI. They find out that is belongs to Gary Tolan, the exective assistant director of the criminal investigations division of the FBI.
Abs takes on the task of tryin to figure out who the recipient of the liver transplant is( the home invader).

Jethro interrogates Sgt. Dempsey. She tells Jethro that she was indeed with Tolan, who was panicked and revealed to her that he was married, after the home invasion. She told him to leave and that she would cover for him.

Abs figured out the identity of the dead intruder. He had a long rap sheet. His fingerprints were found at the scene of two other murders. Jethro figures out that he was not a home intruder, but a hit man. They find out that Sgt Dempsey was the target, not the FBI bigwig as they had suspected. The entire time Tony Denozo had been implying that the FBI and Sgt Dempsey are in on something together.
Sgt. Dempseys brother had been shot prior to all this when she was in afghanistan. Upon trying to locate her, Ziva and Tony found her brother, and got the story. The drug dealer who had shot her brother was given immunity, and a new identity for cooperating and giving up higher up drug lords. Tolan ( Mr FBI) was the one who granted him immunity. Sgt Dempsey had beenb luring Tolan to her place to try to get information from him on the new idenity of the drug dealer who shot her brother. Tolan reveals this information to NCIS. HE tells NCIS where she can be found. WHen they surround the barn, they find her, and Abbott, the drug dealer, attatched to a bomb with a motion sensor. Abbott admits to having put a hit out on Sgt Dempsey. It turns out the bomb was a fake.. she had let him suffer for days.. as her brother suffers every day. Crime solved.
