Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901
Lately, my Gyration Ultra GP110 air mouse has been pretty flaky. I love the fact that you can pick it up and move it around in the air to control the mouse pointer on my digital entertainment laptop that is connected to my big screen TV. However, after thirteen years of service, it is finally wearing out.
At the local Fry's electronic store, I looked at its entire inventory of wireless controllers. I decided against wireless mouses, because it needs a surface to operate. I wanted to lean back on my comfortable sofa while controlling the media center PC. At first, I was hoping for a Bluetooth input device, because many new laptops have Bluetooth capability now. But there was no suitable Bluetooth remote. What I found was the Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901.
Unintuitive from its name, the Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 actually has a small trackball on it. The trackball is accompanied by two buttons, which acts as the left and the right button on a mouse. The keyboard, above the trackball and buttons, is unlike a traditional keyboard where you touch type. It is more like a physical keyboard on a mobile phone; you use your thumb to type on the keyboard. Therefore, the Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard serves both as a "mouse" and a "keyboard".
The trackball and the mini keyboard is a great combination for the sofa, because you can lean back, use the trackball and buttons to navigate the pointer on the screen. When you need to enter search terms or change file names, you can easily type with the mini keyboard. This combination is so much more convenient than having a separate mouse and keyboard, where you have to go find the keyboard, bring it back to the sofa, and try to type on your lap.
And after getting the Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901, I found that wireless technology had really come a long way from thirteen years ago. The Gyration Ultra Air Mouse GP110 and the Gyration Compact Keyboard GP9110 always had RF channel problems. And around 15 feet, they require constant adjustment to the RF antenna. The Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 and its mini USB dongle, on the other hand, had none of these problems. I just plugged the mini USB dongle into the laptop USB port and was good to go. The Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 had clear signal even when it was completely out of my living room.
After using it for only 10 minutes with my entertainment laptop, I was sold that the Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 is the right remote for the living room. I look forward to an additional thirteen years of trouble-free enjoyment in my living room.

The Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 works with NiMh, NiCd, and Alkaline batteries. It takes two AAA batteries to power the remote. The only thing missing on the remote is a scroll wheel for the trackball.
